Four-shaft shredder for long and bulky materials

WEIMA ZM 60 series four-shaft shredder

  • High drive power
  • Heavy-duty planetary gearboxes
  • Siemens PLC
  • Four-shaft technology
  • Heavy-duty anti-wear package
  • Robust, space-saving design

Wherever there is a need to reduce the volume of bulky and long wood and plastic waste, as well as packaging, cardboard or metal waste of all kinds, the ZM series machines are the obvious choice. The tried-and-tested shredder with four parallel shafts is designed for medium throughput rates. With a spacious hopper, two cutting shafts and two clearing shafts, and a screen insert that can be individually adapted to your application, the shredders in this series reduce your waste materials to a uniform particle size – whether as a stand-alone solution or as part of a multi-stage plant.

Product features

High drive power with twin motors, planetary gearboxes and frequency converters

Two powerful electric motors, each with a drive power of up to 30 kW, drive the four shafts. For the machines in this series, WEIMA relies on robust planetary gearboxes to generate high torque. The ZM series can be optionally fitted with a frequency converter. This allows the speed to be adjusted continuously and helps to prevent power surges.

Easy operation via Siemens PLC

The multi-shaft shredders are easy to operate via a high-quality Siemens PLC control system. A touchscreen display is also available as an option. To minimise the footprint, the control cabinet is mounted on the side of the hopper. A freestanding version is also available on request.

Heavy-duty anti-wear package for particularly abrasive materials

For the shredding of particularly abrasive materials, such as fibrous or heavily soiled material, we recommend our anti-wear package. To ensure a particularly long service life for the bearings, wear protection plates can be selected for the cutting chamber on both the fixed bearing side and the gearbox side, in addition to a double-walled machine design. Furthermore, cutting shafts and cutting discs can be manufactured from hardened tool steel.

Low speed, maximum power for a wide range of applications

Thanks to the low shaft speed of approx. 25 rpm, noise levels remain very low. The slow speed generates an extremely high torque. This enables high throughput with low power consumption. For light materials (e.g. peat), special motors can also be used to achieve speeds of up to 50 rpm.

Customised cutting configuration for optimal shredding results

The standard cutting configuration of the ZM shredder comprises two cutting shafts and two clearing shafts. The cutting shafts can be configured according to the desired throughput and particle size. The width and number of cutting discs can be adjusted to suit your application. For higher throughput, the clearing discs can optionally be replaced with cutting discs. In addition, special cutting discs with more cutting teeth are available – for even more aggressive cutting.

Low-maintenance shredding without a slide gate system, featuring four-shaft technology

The material is gripped and shredded by the cutting discs’ teeth, and then forced through the cutting gaps between the discs by the discharge discs. Furthermore, the discharge discs ensure optimised material discharge through the screen. Thanks to the self-feeding mechanism, the machines do not require a hydraulic pusher system. This reduces maintenance requirements.

Consistent granule size thanks to the interchangeable screen insert

The screen positioned beneath the cutting and clearing discs determines the pellet size. An optional secondary crushing system integrated into the screen prevents long pieces from passing through the perforated screen and causing blockages in downstream machinery. Depending on the application, round holes with diameters of 10–150 mm are available. Special versions with slits or without a screen insert are also available. This ensures that the optimum pellet size is produced for every individual application.

Versatile feeding via a large hopper using a conveyor belt, forklift, lift-and-tilt device or by hand

The large feed hopper can be customised to meet specific customer requirements. For maximum flexibility, the shredder can be fed in a user-friendly manner via a conveyor belt, forklift, lift-and-tilt device or by hand. The low loading height facilitates this. A feed pressure system is also available as an option. When shredding very dusty material, we recommend a cover with a safety limit switch to protect against dust and splashes.

Can be integrated into your production process thanks to its compact design

The robust yet space-saving design of the machine ensures easy integration into your complete production line. The ZM series can, for example, be used as a pre-shredder upstream of a cutting mill or to shred materials for subsequent briquetting.

Flexible material discharge via suction, screw conveyor or conveyor belt

For particularly quick and easy screen changes, we recommend the optional Quick Change Screen. The manually removable screen insert allows the screen to be optimally adapted to your varying material flows.

Quick access to the screen with an optional quick-change screen

Automatic overload protection with a reversing circuit

In the event of overload, the left-hand cutting and clearing discs and the right-hand cutting and clearing discs reverse independently of one another, depending on which pair of shafts is bearing the greater load. This relieves the load from the shafts and repositions the material to be shredded so that it can be shredded optimally.
