The WEIMA WL 8 single-shaft shredder is a high-performance industrial wood shredder within the WL series, designed to meet the higher capacity requirements of wood-processing plants. It is positioned within the WEIMA portfolio as the larger variant of the established classics, the WL 4 and WL 6, and is characterised by a wider rotor, which enables higher throughput rates in industrial waste shredding.

The robust construction with a profiled V-rotor guarantees reliable processing of a wide variety of wood waste and supports seamless integration into extraction or conveyor systems. Wood processors benefit from consistent shredding results, reduced maintenance requirements and cost-effectiveness in daily production, making the WL 8 an efficient solution at the upper end of the WL family’s performance range.

Below is an overview of the technical specifications, applications and available options for this proven single-shaft shredder.

Product features
Siemens PLC control

Intuitive machine control with a Siemens PLC and touchscreen

The PLC control system with touchscreen display allows for quick parameter adjustment and monitoring of all process variables. Functions such as slide cycle settings or automatic stops can be adjusted directly, which improves usability and reduces set-up times. The integrated overload protection prevents machine faults and ensures safe, uninterrupted operation.

High throughput thanks to a profiled V-rotor and aggressive material intake

The aggressive WEIMA rotor principle ensures powerful and continuous material intake. Even bulky or voluminous wood waste is reliably collected and shredded. The result is high throughput combined with a stable process – ideal for businesses with high material volumes and cost-effective requirements.

Smooth material flow thanks to an intelligent hopper design

The hopper serves several purposes. Firstly, it is used to feed the material to be shredded into the machine – either manually, mechanically or via a conveyor belt. The generous opening also makes it easy to load very large items. However, what is crucial for shredding is its special design, which is rounded at the front and thus effectively prevents material jams. Even with bulky items, the shredder clears itself automatically. If required, both hopper extensions and lids with gas springs are available.

Stable process control thanks to load-dependent hydraulic feed

The hydraulically controlled feed gate automatically adjusts to the material load and feeds the material evenly to the rotor. This prevents bridging, reduces the need for manual intervention and ensures consistently high grinding quality with defined particle sizes. The load-dependent control system minimises wear and ensures stable operation under varying production conditions.

Screwed interchangeable strainer from WEIMA

Adjustable particle size thanks to easily interchangeable screens

The screening system can be adapted to the requirements of various applications: depending on the desired particle size, either a fine-mesh or coarse-mesh screen can be fitted. The standard screw-on mounting allows for quick screen changes and ensures consistent grinding results, which optimally supports further processing or the extraction system.

Longer service life thanks to protection of sensitive hydraulic components

The sensitive hydraulic components are integrated into the machine frame, thereby protecting them from dust, dirt and the elements. A separate service access panel allows for easy maintenance, whilst the protection of the hydraulic system increases machine availability and reduces unplanned downtime.

Flexible material discharge thanks to a wide range of discharge options

Depending on operational requirements, the shredded material can be discharged via a vacuum extraction system, a discharge screw or a conveyor belt. This integration into existing conveying and disposal systems enables a seamless process chain without the need for additional modifications and supports the efficient recycling of waste materials.

Reduced vibrations and improved stability thanks to vibration-damping machine feet

The rubber machine feet effectively absorb vibrations and ensure stable machine operation without the need for fixed floor anchoring. This improves the working environment, reduces stress on the structure and supports smooth, reliable production over long periods of operation.

Long service life thanks to robust construction and WEIMA WAP gearboxes

The compact, robust design, featuring an internal WAP gearbox and a powerful electric motor, ensures continuous operation even during demanding shredding tasks. The in-house developed gearbox delivers high torque reserves, is easy to maintain and reduces mechanical stress. This extends the machine’s service life and lowers total operating costs in industrial applications.

Long-lasting protection thanks to the offset rotor bearing

The offset position of the rotor bearings provides reliable protection against dust, dirt and material ingress. This significantly reduces the load on the bearings and extends maintenance intervals. The result is a durable design offering high operational reliability – even during multi-shift operation.
